About: Dr. Syeda Nuzhat completed medical school from The Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan and moved to the United States in 2004 after accepting the position of the Instructor in Clinical Research in the Rockefeller University Hospital, New York.
She completed Psychiatry Residency Training at Harvard Medical School and became an Attending Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at the UMass Medical School until 2019 when she became Medical Director at one of the state hospitals.
She was awarded a clinical excellence award in recognition of outstanding clinical care by the Department of Psychiatry at UMass Medical School in 2018. She was cited for her outstanding performance in 2020 by the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.
She also runs a small outpatient practice. She is actively involved in community work. She travelled to Iraq and Iran for conferences and also volunteered for a two-week camp at Karbala, Iraq during which she ran train the trainers program to create mental health awareness among health professionals, students and nurses.
As a life-long meditator, she became interested in neuroscience of western mindfulness and attended multiple international conferences on mindfulness. She runs a weekly mindfulness group in her hospital which is open to both patients and employees.
She is actively involved in social and educational welfare of children who have lost parents in her hometown in Pakistan. She lives with her husband and two sons in Massachusetts. She likes to read and cook and socialize with friends.
